Bayani Challenge unity dance is one of the fun memories in all Bayani Challenge for the past years... Every volunteer at the end of 5days knows how dance no matter if you memorize the steps or you are simply dancing not minding the steps if you got it correctly or not. Anyways the ones who knows the step is always leading everyone on stage... so all you need to do is follow... makasabay ka man sa steps or hindi... :)

Island Challenge in Bantayan Cebu - Bayani Challenge 2011

GK Bayani Challenge 2011 goes to the Island of Bantayan Cebu, my first Bayani Challenge. Experiencing this, is totally different from just listening it to other Bayani's. 

My story is here: Heroism, boldness, bravery, great courage, unconditional love,  or maybe craziness’ to some.... this were just the word that can best describe the work that GK is embarking on to end the poverty in our country.

For a week thousands of volunteers travel to Bantayan Island to transform the Island and its people from all walks of life. Who would think that this can be possible? Maybe the crazy dreamers, who can fulfill the dream of other people, who choose to love and care despite the pain and personal struggles that each one them is going through. Below is the video from GKOM of GK Bayani Challenge 2011: "A 5 day journey of love of God and country towards rebuilding a nation through building of homes, island greening, farm build, health mission, school build and paraisong pambata. Last April 4-9, about 1,700 volunteers rocked Bantayan Island and built hope and new found relationship with the people of Sta. Fe, Madridejos and Bantayan."



This year join us once again as we continue to build our nation. We are challenging the impossible, Bayani Challenge 2013 will gather 100,000 volunteers in 37 provinces simultaneously for 5 days. 

As what had said in the blog of Tito Boy (Jose Ma. Montelibano) The Gawad Kalinga mission is to take the poorest 5 million Filipino families out of poverty by 2024. It is a promise, a sacred oath, aware of the overwhelming odds but not willing to let poverty dehumanize brother and sister Filipinos in perpetuity. The mission has been accepted by GK workers and volunteers, but the invitation is for all Filipinos, as the responsibility is a shared one."

As we continue to take on the challenge and challenge the impossible, here in Negros Occidental, Bayani Challenge is in Cadiz City.

Brave Heroes Conquered GK Bayani Challenge in Sulu

Hopes shines in Mindanao with heroes of GK Bayani Challenge 2008

GK Bayani Challenge again brings hope in Mindanao in the year 2008. Here volunteers gather to build. As builders in GK Dangcagan, DangcaganBukidnon says, "The more we sweat for peace, the less we bleed for war."

Volunteers arrived at build site. Christians and Muslims alike worked together in peace, building houses for our fellow Filipinos who does have a decent home to live at.

Peace can be achieved if we work for the common good of the people without descrimanating anyone. "We are one nation, we are Filipinos" says Tito Tony Meloto. So we must live in harmony with each other giving hope and sharing our time, talent and resources so that everyone can live decently and with dignity.

Bayani Challenge 2007 goes to Albay, Camarines Sur, Marinduque and Sorsogon

On its 2nd year, Bayani challenge goes to Albay, Camarines Sur, Marinduque and Sorsogon. And once again respond to the call of transforming despair into hope. 

Typhoon Reming devastated the Bicol Region in December 2006. One of the strongest typhoon that claimed many lives, destroyed infrastructure, food production and many homes that shattered the lives of people. A home where we find comfort and rest with our family after a day of hard work. 

Despite of trials and pains, we  Filipinos choose to see the beauty of a rainbow after a storm coupled with faith and hope in our heart that together  we can start all over again. 

In this region, on April 9 to 13, 2007, Bayani's from all walks of life, young and young at heart travels Bicol and help rebuild the lives of the people affected by Typhoon Reming.

Gawad Kalinga Bayani Challenge started in 2006 at Guinsaugon Leyte, a response to uplift and rebuild the lives of people to recover from a disaster that happened. 

With 24 teams in 5 days with 1 goal and that is to build homes for Guinsaugon survivors.

Bayani Challenge 2013 - March 23 to 27 in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental

Every year since 2006, Gawad Kalinga has staged the Bayani Challenge, a 5-day test of courage, endurance and love for country. Teams of 15 people go on an adventure to plant hope on the ground by building communities and fostering friendships that are critical to nation-building.

The urgent call of building this nation will be answered once again this March 23-27, 2013. This year’s Bayani Challenge will gather volunteers not only in one but in 34 provinces around the country. “BAYANI CHALLENGE 2013: ISANG BAYAN, ISANG BAYANIHAN!” will challenge more volunteers to change lives and bring hope to others in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

The event will have different sets of activities daily that the volunteers may participate on.

1. Building of homes

Build an actual home for a family and experience everything from laying the foundation, attaching the roof, painting the walls, and landscaping.

2. Paraisong Pambata

Create an environment of fun and learning for children aged 6 to 10 years old through feeding programs, story-telling sessions, games, and a Sports Clinic.

3. School Build

Make public schools conducive to learning by refurbishing rooms, painting walls, landscaping gardens, and repairing tables and chairs.

4. Environment

Be a hero for the environment by planting trees and organizing clean-up drives.

5. Community Health

Share the importance of health by conducting a nutrition program, medical check-ups and health consultations among the different barangays.

We will cap off each spirited and fulfilling day with the following activities:

·         Blogging Rights Day: Sharing of experiences and inspiring stories of heroism.

·         Empowerment Talks: After-dinner talks and sessions to process the experience and harness the heroism in everyone.

·         Fellowship Night: Brings together the volunteers for a night of celebration and commitment.

  

Aside from this exciting line-up, we will also be hosting a series of SPECIAL EVENTS this year:

·         Bayanihan Race: Teams will compete in a unique race around the island.

·         Master Kusinero: The team that cooks the best dish using an endemic ingredient from the island will be rewarded.

·         Concert: At the end of the Bayani Challenge, we will celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime experience through a culminating activity that will feature bands and other exciting surprises.
